A colourful expression
of our Nationalities
Some of the places visited as chosen by our residents are: Tiptree Jam Factory, Frinton Garden Centre & Tesco.
We also regularly organise special themed days for our residents and families: Australia Day, International Taster,
Olympics Celebration, 1950’s Party, May Day & Fun in Scotland. At these events staff costumes, entertainment and
food were organised in line with each theme.
In 2009, we purchased a Green House and our residents have set up their own gardening club, choosing to grow specific
plants and vegetables. To encourage our residents to be physically active, we have a Wii toy in our cinema lounge.
Our new greenhouse
Our sister home Corner Lodge, specialises in Dementia Care and runs a similar programme of activities to
The Corner House.
At The Corner House, we understand the importance of residents stimulation, both in mind and body. We feel we can
offer our residents opportunities to be fulfilled and happy. In 2009 we recruited
an Activities Co-
organising outings to various places of interest, bringing the community in to the home, recruiting volunteers, and
organising daily activities within the home, such as: Reminiscing, Bingo, Quizzes, Cards, Manicures, Outside Music
Entertainment, Hairdressing, Chiropody.
Inviting the community in has led to the following initiatives: Telephone Befriending, run through Help the Aged,
local church groups performing services, local schools providing art classes for the residents, Essex County
Council Library Services are setting up a reading group, and IT Mentoring performed by a Volunteer.
